Welcome to the world of Jane's drawing and painting, here you will find prints, oil paintings in the Gallery, with a shop hopefully coming soon and up todate info about whats happening in Janes blog section.
My story as an artist goes back to about 1995 but really I suppose it all started with the drawing when I was very small. My encouragement came from my family and they were often sketched by me using a pen. The pen really originated from watching my dad, a superb tutor in architecture, he always had Rotring pens to hand which inevitably always leaked ink everywhere.
I continued to draw, sporadically until 1995 when I started to draw frantically! Spurred on by my dad, through his illness and also subsequent late painting endeavours, I caught the bug of drawing people. I went to cafes every other day and to life drawing drop in classes 2 or 3 times a week. I was hooked. Many sketchbooks later and after my dear dad had died I decided to try Art College.
Art college was a super 3 years of painting and drawing, having a place to paint was a revelation, alongside some super people and tutors who are now good friends. The pen travelled everywhere on trips to New York, Spain, Italy to name a few.
Fast forward to 2011, or nearly 2012 at the time of writing, and I am still happiest when drawing with the pen. A simple occupation which has demanded a lot but given back immesurably.
My current project is a long one; drawing dancers whilst they are moving, either from live productions or from video. I prefer to draw from life, it is extremely challenging but always remains for me the best experience. This was started about 2 years ago and I am still trying to capture the impossibility of movement in ink.
Being inspired by other artists and indeed other art forms such as dance spurs me and invigorates. This in turn is passed on in my teaching, hopefully.
